Seattle Photographs What's New

Frommer's Seattle 2012 travel guide

Frommer's is one of the world's largest guidebook publishers, and once again they chose Howard Frisk to be the principal photographer for their latest Seattle travel guide. After a successful experience with their Seattle Day by Day travel guide, published in 2009, Frommer's knew they could depend on Howard to produce the large volume of quality photographs required for their latest publication.

Frommer's Seattle 2012 travel guide is scheduled to be published in January, 2012.

"I have seen the first draft layout of the book, and it looks amazing. I can't believe you got so many clear, blue-sky days in Seattle.  The colors are great, and so were the approaches you took to just about every shoot. Thanks again for all your help so far, and hopefully we'll work together again."

- Alden Gewirtz, Photo Editor, Travel, Frommer's

"I've just returned to the office today and I'm browsing quickly through the images you've submitted. They look very nice and I'm particularly pleased with the 'experiential' images of tours such as Tillicum Village, Museum of Flight, EMP and Future of Flight. I'm glad you were able to give us a wide selection of images and many interesting shots with people. (And good weather! I know that's a challenge there.)"

- Hernan Sosa, Senior Graphics Designer, Weaver Multimedia Group

HDR Photography

HDR photo galleryWhat is HDR? This is a process where three separate photographs - one correctly exposed, one over exposed, and one underexposed - are all combined into a single image, resulting in a surreal look that you must see to believe.

Frommer's Seattle Day by DayFrommer's Seattle Day by Day guidebook

The most well respected name in travel guidebooks - Frommer's, an imprint of John Wiley & Sons, Inc., has chosen Howard Frisk of Seattle Photographs to be the photographer for their new Seattle area guidebook, Seattle Day by Day. This is the 20th book in the very popular Day by Day series.  This series is different from many other Frommer's books in that they contain hundreds of evocative color photographs, detailed maps and tip for seeing Seattle in the smartest, most time-efficient way.

We received a list of over 200 "top priority" locations in the Seattle area that needed to be photographed in 5 weeks. We visited some of the most famous hotels, restaurants, night spots, museums and specialty retail shops in Seattle. Photographs were shot all digital and uploaded to Seattle Photograph's event photography web site, where the photo editor and other staff members at Frommer's could view all submissions. Reviewing and selecting photographs for the book was fast and efficient.

"GREAT method of delivery. I am extremely gratified!! Thanks!!!!" - Richard Fox, Photo Editor, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

We met the deadline and the photo editor was very pleased with our results. The book is available at Barnes & Noble, Borders, and Amazon.com and other bookstores.

Web site upgrade complete

We have finished upgrading the browsing and shopping cart function of our web site. You will notice these improvements:

  • Faster loading galleries
  • Faster search results
  • Larger sized images are now viewable - up to 1600 pixels wide so even minute detail is visible
  • Automatic photo resizing - this is really great: the photos displayed automatically resize to become larger as your screen resolution increases, or smaller as your screen resolution decreases so you get the best possible viewing experience.
  • A movable cropping template is now available during the checkout process - this gives you precise control over how a photograph is cropped
  • Customizable browsing look and feel - you have a choice of seven different viewing layouts so you can pick the one you like best
  • New slide show function

Simplified pricing

We have vastly simplified our digital stock photo pricing structure:

Personal Use Rates

  • $15 - Web Size - roughly 640 x 480 pixels

  • $25 - 1 Mpix - about 800 x 1200 pixels

  • $45 - 4 megapixels - 1600 x 2400 pixels

  • $95 - Original - varies from 6 to 13 megapixels and from 2000 x 3000 to 2900 x 4300 pixels

Commercial Use Rates

  • $25 - Web Size - roughly 640 x 480 pixels

  • $45 - 1 Mpix - about 800 x 1200 pixels

  • $75 - 4 megapixels - 1600 x 2400 pixels

  • $145 - Original - varies from 6 to 13 megapixels and from 2000 x 3000 to 2900 x 4300 pixels

Many stock photo agencies base their price on a very complicated pricing structure, where they factor in such things as territory, print runs, amount of circulation, distribution area, industry, placement (front vs. back), incremental sizes, etc. None of this matters in our simplified pricing.

Prices reduced

We have reduced our stock photo prices as well as our fine art print prices across the board, so it is even easier for you to afford the quality photographs you want.

Instant downloads on digital stock photos

No more waiting for your digital orders to be processed. As soon as you finish the check put process you can download your photos.

More photographs uploaded

We now have over 3,000 high resolution photographs online, which is among the largest collection of relevant Seattle photographs anywhere. You can search at the big name stock photo agencies and get thousands upon thousands of search results, but may of these photographs have little if anything to do with Seattle. We strive to make our photographs relevant.

More print choices

You can get your prints on paper with a matte, glossy or lustre finish, with a box frame, on canvas, or on canvas which is stretched and mounted on wood stretcher bars (gallery wrap) in sizes up to 24" x 36". Larger sizes are available on certain photographs.
